PSG were close to signing Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane

Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) apparently came close to signing Harry Kane from Tottenham Hotspur earlier this summer.

The England international’s future in N17 is in doubt and he could leave this summer before his contract expires in June 2024. PSG fancied their chances of using this situation to their advantage.

But chairman Daniel Levy, as per the Telegraph (Subscription Required) [h/t the Express], was forced to exit talks as he realised Kane wasn’t interested in the transfer. PSG have a space to fill in their attack after Lionel Messi’s exit as a free agent.

Kane, however, doesn’t seem interested in joining the Ligue 1 superclub. They are also facing huge uncertainty over Kylian Mbappe’s future, which makes Kane an ideal successor for the Frenchman.

What next for Spurs and Kane?

But Kane is said to be sold by Bayern Munich’s project. The Bavarian giants are also interested in signing the 29-year-old and with the player on their side, they would hope to strike an agreement with Spurs.

It has been widely stated that Kane would go for around £100million this summer. That’s a fair price given his importance to this Spurs team and given what players inferior to him are going for in the market.

PSG’s history in Europe isn’t very impressive. Their newfound domestic success hasn’t translated to the UEFA Champions League at all.

They have made as many UEFA Champions League finals in their history as Tottenham. Bayern have a rich history and a superb culture at the club. If Kane will leave Spurs, there can’t be too many better options than Bayern for Spurs fans.

That is majorly because at least Kane won’t be joining a direct Premier League rival that way.
