Chelsea open to Conor Gallagher contract extension amidst Tottenham Hotspur interest
Premier League rivals Chelsea are open to extending the contract of Conor Gallagher amidst interest from Tottenham Hotspur, according to Sky Sports journalist Dharmesh Sheth via GiveMeSport.
As per the Evening Standard, the North London side are one of the team looking to acquire the midfielder’s services this summer. West Ham United are also optimistic about getting a hold of his signature.
At the moment, the 23-year-old is on £50,000-per-week at Chelsea. For someone of the England international’s quality, his wages are significantly low.
Gallagher made his way through the youth ranks at the Blues. Over the years, the midfielder has developed at West Bromwich Albion and Crystal Palace before making a place for himself at the Stamford Bridge side.
The English national was a key player for the West London club in the previous campaign, scoring three goals and providing one assist in 45 appearances in all competitions.
While Tottenham have him on their radar, speaking to GiveMeSport, Sheth revealed that Chelsea are open to securing the 23-year-old’s future. However, a departure has not been ruled out.
“He’s got two years left on his contract. I’m told that Chelsea are open to extending his contract, but I don’t think you can rule out a departure.”
Spurs could lose Pierre Emile Hojbjerg this summer. Atletico Madrid are keeping an eye on the Danish national’s situation at the North London side. Borussia Dortmund also have him on their radar.
Ange Postecoglou also have the likes of Yves Bissouam, Tanguy Ndombele, Oliver Skipp, Pape Matar Sarr, Giovani Lo Celso and Rodrigo Bentancur in his ranks. It remains to be seen who ends up remaining at the club in the coming weeks.
