Premier League discourage Tottenham from selling Davinson Sanchez to Russia

According to the Guardian, the Premier League have vehemently discouraged Tottenham Hotspur from selling out-of-favour defender Davinson Sanchez to Spartak Moscow in Russia.

Some time ago, news emerged in the Times which stated that Tottenham had accepted a bid from the Russian club believed to be in the range of €15m that would have seen Sanchez leave the club.

Apparently, even though a number of other clubs like Real Betis, Sevilla and Galatasaray were interested in a move for the Colombian defender, it was the Russian club that made the biggest bid and got Tottenham to say yes.

All top-flight clubs in England have been discouraged from doing business with Russia due to the political tension prevalent there over the past 18 months and the Premier League seemed to be taken aback by Tottenham’s decision to accept the bid.

Ultimately, the sensible decision has been made and Tottenham and the player have chosen to reject Spartak Moscow. Even the 27-year-old player’s agent confirmed that it was the end of negotiations with the Russian club (h/t Euro Football Russia)

Yes, Tottenham are desperate to send Davinson Sanchez to another club and at this point, they will take any offer. However, there are certain things that must be considered off-limits and it is not a good look for the club if they do business with Russia.

It is not like Sanchez does not have suitors. With quite a few clubs interested in securing his services, Tottenham must not really have an issue with shifting him out this summer and a move to Spain could be on the cards.

However, the club cannot rest easy just yet. It is not just sufficient if they sell Sanchez but they also need to do something about addressing the defensive frailties that have been plaguing the club for quite some time now.
