Tottenham Hotspur could have a Hollywood spin as rapper Jay-Z is eyeing the club takeover
According to the American outlet Daily Express (h/t Football London), a business associate of rapper Jay-Z revealed that the superstar is plotting a sensational Tottenham Hotspur takeover.
This news comes after current club Joe Lewis was accused of insider trading. He accumulated a total of £5bn from currency trading.
Lewis is currently released on bail but there will be a trial later this year. It remains to be seen whether he walks away free after all these trials.
Jay-Z’s business associate touched on that point while revealing that the legendary rapper would be interested in buying Tottenham. Here’s what he said (quoted by Football London):
“More than a few of the very top clubs there – like Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea – are now under US ownership and Jay would jump at the chance of a controlling interest at board level somewhere with the global reach of Spurs.
“It remains to be seen whether Mr. Lewis will walk away free. If he doesn’t, Jay has said he wants to be in a position to move quickly if he feels the price is right.”
It is surreal to think that 24-time Grammy Awards winner Jay-Z is interested in taking over Spurs. Maybe, he saw Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney taking over Wrexham and creating a lovely Hollywood-style story there.
Although Tottenham have done well on the marketing front in the last few years, it would be great if the American reach intensifies following the potential takeover.
The current ownership model has failed when it comes to adequate backing of managers to get the footballing side of things right. Daniel Levy is the culprit of that as well.
Having the new owners may inject fresh optimism and will within the club to succeed and compete to win trophies in the coming years.
The American influence has taken over a number of Premier League clubs in the last few years. Apart from Spurs, top clubs like Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United are owned by people from the other side of the Atlantic.
