Louis Saha predicts Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou to be first PL managerial sacking
Former Manchester United ace Louis Saha has predicted Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou to be the first manager to be sacked in the Premier League.
The Australian head coach was appointed in the North London side’s dugout this summer. After two successful years at Celtic, where the gaffer won multiple trophies, he has been handed his first job in the English top flight.
However, the PL is one of the most competitive leagues. Speaking to bettingsodds.com (h/t The Sun), Saha, who spent four years at Man United, fears for the safety of Postecoglou’s job.
“If in the first few games, Spurs don’t start well under Postecoglou, I could see him being under a bit of pressure.
“The Kane situation hasn’t been solved and it’s a new manager with a new system, so there is a lot of question marks, so he is the first name that’s come to mind when I think of the first sacking.”
Prior to his stint in Scotland, the gaffer managed the Australian national team and Yokohama F Marinos. Therefore, the experience at Spurs is arguably not going to be easy for him.
Tottenham have had the likes of Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte in their dugout in the recent past. The Portuguese and Italian head coaches are considered serial winners in the game.
Unfortunately, neither of them were able to end the North London side’s 14-year trophy drought. Thus, Postecoglou evidently has a mammoth task ahead of him at Spurs.
Also, the uncertainty around the future of Harry Kane is not encouraging for the Australian, either. The England international has been our talisman for a number of years now and was Tottenham’s only reliable goalscorer last season.
Spurs struggled defensively in the previous campaign. As of yet, in the ongoing transfer window, we have not signed a centre-back. The North London side’s hierarchy need to back the gaffer this summer.
The lack of European football will hopefully help Postecoglou focus on the PL. However, it remains to be seen how the Australian will go about his business as we take on Man United in August, with the Arsenal and Liverpool fixtures in October.
