La Liga side Real Sociedad have genuine interest in signing Tottenham defender Sergio Reguilon
As per a tweet from transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, Spanish side Real Sociedad are interested in signing Tottenham Hotspur left-back Sergio Reguilon.
It is also revealed that the deal is not in advanced stage at the moment, which means only initial dialogues must have taken place.
Reguilon, who was signed by Tottenham from Sevilla in the summer of 2020 for a deal worth rising up to £32m, was on loan at Atletico Madrid last season. He played only 317 minutes for Diego Simeone’s side though. Hence, we can classify that loan spell as a waste of time for the player.
During the 2021/22 season, the Spain international did make 31 appearances in all competitions under Nuno Espirito Santo and Antonio Conte. He was sent on loan by the latter last summer when Spurs signed Ivan Perisic.
A few weeks ago, Football London revealed that Perisic is keen on leaving the club to go back and play in his native Croatia.
If we assume that the 34-year-old leaves this summer, Tottenham would be left with Japhet Tanganga and Ben Davies as options for the left-back position.
The latter does not have the pace anymore to bomb up and down the field from the fullback position. He looked comfortable when asked to play the wide centre-back role in a three-man central defence.
Tanganga, on the other hand, is more of a right-back who is comfortable when playing in central defence. So, shoe-horning him at left-back wouldn’t be wise.

Keeping all that in mind, it won’t be a surprise if Ange Postecoglou blocks out any move for Reguilon this summer and keeps him as one of the regular starters in the side for the coming season.
