Ange Postecoglou ‘trying to convince’ Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Giovani Lo Celso to snub Barcelona interest
Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou is ‘trying to convince’ Giovani Lo Celso to stay amidst interest from Barcelona, according to Spanish outlet Estadio Deportivo.
The Australian gaffer has been giving the Argentina international regular minutes during pre-season. Also, the former Celtic head coach has informed the hierarchy that he prefers the 27-year-old over the likes of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Rodrigo Bentancur and Tanguy Ndombele.
However, at the moment, the Blaugrana are looking to acquire the services of Lo Celso. Recently, the La Liga giants have been in contact with the midfielder’s agent to get a hold of his signature.

Xavi is an admirer of the Argentine and wants to add him to the Catalan outfit’s squad ahead of the upcoming campaign. However, it remains to be seen what the former Paris Saint-Germain and Real Betis star will decide.
Tottenham signed Lo Celso in the summer of 2019 from the Verdiblancos. Mauricio Pochettino wanted the midfielder. However, with the Argentine manager’s sacking, the midfielder found himself on the peripheries of the plans of Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte.
Subsequently, the former Betis star has spent the last season and a half on loan at Villarreal. He thrived at the Yellow Submarines. Sadly the playmaker’s 2022/23 term was marred by injuries.

In Spurs’ recent friendlies against West Ham United and Lion City Sailors, Lo Celso was able to find the back of the net. The midfielder has put in some decent displays. It would not be a surprise to see the Argentine become a pivotal player under Postecoglou.
At Barcelona, Xavi has an abundance of talent at his disposal in the engine room. The Blaugrana can call upon Frenkie de Jong, Pedri, Gavi, Ilkay Gundogan and Franck Kessie.
