Tottenham Hotspur are close to agreeing a £30m deal for Micky Van de Ven
According to The Daily Mail, Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur are closing in on an agreement for Wolfsburg star Micky Van de Ven as the summer transfer window enters its final month.
The 22-year-old Dutch international has been one of the best young centre-backs in the German flight and is now ready to take the next step in his development. A strong defender with pace to burn, Van de Ven has the makings of a ball player who can slot in seamlessly into Ange Postecoglou’s system.
This is good news for Spurs who are in the market for a new centre-back. Bayer Leverkusen’s Edmond Tapsoba is another player linked with a move to north London but our pursuit of Van de Ven appears to be the one bearing fruit.
The 22-year-old is coming off an excellent season in the Bundesliga where he elevated his standing as a player to watch out for. Van de Ven also caught the attention of Liverpool but Tottenham are firmly in the driving seat and will be on the clock to get the deal done soon.
Adding the Dutchman to a backline that was as porous as a sieve last season would be a step in the right direction.
He would complement Cristian Romero who is more of a physical tour de force than a technician. Van de Ven is a ball player who can bring the ball out from the back and kickstart attacks.
Tottenham have been after Van de Ven for some time now and personal terms have already been agreed upon. £30m for a player who will not just future-proof the position but also provide a new dimension to the Spurs roster represents solid value.
The 22-year-old still has some kinks to iron out and should benefit from playing under Postecoglou. His pace, in particular, would prove to be a massive asset at both ends of the pitch.
