Tottenham Hotspur ‘planning’ €45 million offer for Bayer Leverkusen defender Edmond Tapsoba
Tottenham Hotspur are ‘planning’ on making a €45 million offer to Bayer Leverkusen to sign Edmond Tapsoba this summer, according to the chief reporter of German outlet Sport1 Patrick Berger on Twitter.
Spurs are keen on getting a hold of the defender’s signature in the ongoing transfer window. Apart from the aforementioned amount, the North London side will also include add-ons in the proposal.
However, there is still a considerable gap in Tottenham’s potential deal and the Bundesliga outfit’s valuation of the Burkina Faso international. Ideally, the German side would like to keep a hold of the 24-year-old.
Tapsoba established himself at Portuguese outfit Vitoria Guimaraes before making a move to Leverkusen in January 2020. At the Bay Arena side, the defender has gone from strength to strength over the years.
In his three-and-a-half seasons at the Bundesliga outfit, the Burkinabe national has been a key player for them. The centre-back was a pivotal member in Xabi Alonso’s first year in charge in Germany.
In the 2022/23 term, Tapsoba made 47 appearances in all competitions for Leverkusen, scoring two goals and providing two assists. Last season, the Bundesliga outfit kept nine clean sheets in the league.
At Tottenham, the backline has looked fragile over the years. In the previous campaign, we conceded 63 goals in the Premier League, the sixth highest. The North London side ended up finishing eighth in the league table and missed out on European football.
Clement Lenglet was on loan at the club for the 2022/23 term and has returned to Barcelona. Davinson Sanchez has also been linked with an exit. Japhet Tanganga and Joe Rodon have hardly played for us over the years.

Therefore, Spurs evidently need to add to their defensive ranks this summer. However, it remains to be seen whether the Lilywhites will be able to get a deal over the line for Tapsoba.
