Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg still ‘priority’ for Atletico Madrid
Atletico Madrid still have Tottenham Hotspur star Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg on their radar as their ‘priority’ this summer, according to Relevo journalist Matteo Moretto on Twitter.
As things stand, the La Liga outfit’s plans regarding the Denmark international have not changed. To that end, the Spanish giants have agreed personal terms with the midfielder already.
However, Los Rojiblancos are looking to sell a few of their players before making a move for the 28-year-old. However, it remains to be seen how the situation will unfold in the coming weeks.
Tottenham signed Hojbjerg in the summer of 2020 from Southampton. The midfielder made a name for himself at the Saints before failing to make a mark at Bayern Munich.
Over the years, the Danish national has been a key player for the North London side. Spurs have relied on him in the middle of the park season after season under several managers.
In the previous campaign, Hojbjerg was one of the only players to have a decent campaign in the 2022/23 term. He made 44 appearances in all competitions for the Lilywhites, scoring five goals and providing seven assists.
If the Danish national were to leave, we have Yves Bissouma in our ranks for the number six position. Ange Postecoglou has heavily called upon the former Brighton & Hove Albion star during pre-season.
Tottenham also have Oliver Skipp in their ranks. The 22-year-old had an injury-hit 2022/23 term. However, it remains to be seen whether the English national will be able to make a place for himself in the Australian manager’s plans.

Atletico Madrid have sold Geoffrey Kondogbia this summer and evidently need a new defensive midfielder. But Hojbjerg arguably brings the leadership in the engine other midfielders lack in our squad. Therefore, will Spurs part ways with the Danish national? Only time will tell.
