Ange Postecoglou admits Ivan Perisic has a future at Tottenham Hotspur
Speaking to Football. London, Australian manager Ange Postecoglou has claimed that talented Croatian winger Ivan Perisic has a future under him and hints that the veteran could stay at Tottenham Hotspur this season.
Perisic has been continually linked with a move away from Tottenham this summer and initially, it looked like it was only a matter of time. However, Postecoglou seems to rate the former Inter Milan man highly.
Signed by Antonio Conte last season to play as a left wing-back, Perisic left a lasting impression throughout the campaign with his creativity from the wide areas. However, the exit of Conte seemed to have changed his mind.
Despite the exit rumours circling him, Postecoglou chose to give Ivan Perisic a fair run in the pre-season and boy, did he make the most of it! The Croatian was simply sensational playing on the left wing.
The 34-year-old might have wanted to leave but it did not show on the pitch as he kept putting in performance after performance for Spurs, so much so that a case can be made for him being Tottenham’s best pre-season player.
Speaking about the Croatian’s talent, here is what Postecoglou had to say about his role in the squad
“He’s been playing, and playing very well. I’ve followed his career for a long time, he’s an absolute professional, the way he looks after himself, and he’s had a really strong pre-season, in games and training. So he does have a future with me and the club.”
With the exit of Harry Kane, having someone of Ivan Perisic’s experience in the front line might become imperative for Tottenham. The Croatian can add his valuable knowledge to the youngsters around.
It is the right decision for Postecoglou to keep hold of Perisic. Despite his advancing age, he is one of the fittest players in the team and his ability to play in multiple positions cannot be undervalued.
