Postecoglou confident of leading Tottenham without Harry Kane
Speaking in an interview as quoted by Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Ange Postecoglou is confident of leading Tottenham Hotspur without Harry Kane, who he confirmed is on the verge of joining Bayern Munich.
This Kane saga has dragged on for way too long and saw its 24657th twist even in the 11th hour when the Englishman was about to fly to Munich but it finally looks like it is coming to an end, and it is not going in favour of Tottenham.
For very long it seemed like Tottenham were just toying with Bayern Munich, as they kept rebuffing every offer that the German club kept presenting and it looked like Daniel Levy would not budge on his stance to keep Kane.
It would have come as no surprise at all considering what the Tottenham chairman did with Kane’s desired move to Manchester City a few seasons ago but this time there was a difference – the player’s contract situation.
Levy would have known that he cannot let the club run the risk of losing the talisman striker for free next summer and when the right offer was presented by Bayern Munich, he was kind of forced into accepting it.
Harry Kane could have still chosen to stay at Tottenham but he had had enough. After so many years at the club, the Englishman had still not won a trophy and he probably felt that it was the right time for him to jump ship.
Speaking about the situation of Kane’s imminent move, here is what manager Postecoglou had to say
“It looks like Kane-Bayern is going to happen. So we move forward without Harry. We’ve been planning for this for a while. A lot of our business up until now was with that in mind. It doesn’t change my plans dramatically”
For all that he has done for the club over the years, we must let Kane leave with grace. It would have been very difficult for him to make this decision too but maybe he felt now was the right time to do it.
