The future of Eric Dier at Tottenham Hotspur remains uncertain this summer
Tottenham Hotspur defender Eric Dier has an uncertain future at the North London side in the ongoing transfer window, according to football.london.
The England international is keen on staying at the Lilywhites this summer. However, his situation could change if he falls down the pecking order under Ange Postecoglou.
As things stand, the centre-back’s current contract with the club is in its final year. Therefore, Spurs do not have a lot of time on their hands to cash in on the 29-year-old before he becomes a free agent.
Recently, Tottenham have added Micky van de Ven to their ranks. The Holland national was signed from Wolfsburg. However, Postecoglou wants to add another defender to his ranks in the coming weeks.
Spurs have set their sights on Perr Shuurs of Torino. The 23-year-old enjoyed an impressive debut season at the Serie A outfit after moving to Italy from Ajax Amsterdam last summer.
Dier has been on Tottenham’s books since 2014. The centre-back has had a mixed spell so far at the North London side. Inconsistency has been an issue with the English national’s displays over the years.
Interestingly, Dier was not part of our matchday squad against Brentford. Instead, Ange Postecoglou gave Van de Ven his debut alongside Cristian Romero in the backline.
Unfortunately, the Argentine was subbed off injured in the 2-2 draw. Surprisingly, Davinson Sanchez, who was poor last season, was on the bench and replaced the former Atalanta centre-back.

The Australian manager also has Ben Davies at his disposal, who has played centrally in recent years. Yet, we still need to add more numbers to our defence in the ongoing transfer window.
Therefore, for now, it seems wise for Tottenham to keep a hold of Dier to maintain strength in depth. However, whether the English national will opt to leave soon remains to be seen.
