Tottenham are expected to make a formal bid for Gift Orban
According to Evening Standard’s Dan Kilpatrick, Tottenham are expected to make a formal bid for talented striker Gift Orban from Gent before the transfer window closes.
Tottenham’s intentions to secure Gift Orban’s services are becoming increasingly palpable. While fans eagerly anticipate the announcement of a formal move, there looms an underlying narrative that adds nuance to this potential transfer saga.
Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou vocally claimed that it was imperative for the club to shift out some dead wood before actually making more signings. Here is what he had to say about the situation.
“We just can’t keep bringing players in, we need to move some players out. That’s kind of where our focus is right now. Over the next three weeks what we don’t want to do is have it all happen really late in the window which means we’re caught short in any areas. It’s got to work that way. We can’t just keep accumulating players. We’ve got a massive squad as it is at the moment and we need to work on that”
With Harry Kane leaving the club, Tottenham are on the lookout for replacements. It is not going to be easy to find a player who possesses the same qualities as the Englishman and Postecoglou has a decision to make.
Does he go for a seasoned established number nine who might be able to help the club immediately but might not be that useful in the longer run or does he take a punt on a youngster with a tremendous ceiling who might not be that effective immediately?
There are not many players who fit both categories and even if they do, they are likely to be way too expensive. Thus, someone like Gift Orban being linked to the club seems to suggest that we want to bet on potential.
One good thing for us is the fact that we signed Richarlison last season. The Brazilian has been in the Premier League for many seasons now and has the experience to lead the line. This might enable Tottenham to go for someone younger.
Make no mistake, the former Evertonian is a very different striker from Harry Kane. He is a striker regardless and knows how to find the back of the net. In the current situation, Tottenham cannot be choosers.
