Tottenham about to step up their pursuit of Elye Wahi
According to French publication Foot Mercato, Tottenham Hotspur are about to step up their pursuit of talented young French striker Elye Wahi from Montpellier. The striker has also been linked with a move to West Ham United, who have sold Gianluca Scamacca this summer.
Wahi is a name that has been doing the rounds for quite some time now. The youngster has been making the waves in Ligue 1 football and it comes as no surprise that a number of top European clubs want him.
Tottenham for their part have kept insisting on Elye Wahi. However, there has been no breakthrough in negotiations so far. All that could be set to change right now as the North London club need a striker.
Tottenham were dealt a harsh blow last week when their talismanic striker Harry Kane abandoned ship and moved to Bayern Munich, leaving the club high and dry ahead of the new season.
To be fair to him though, the striker has been pushing for a move throughout the summer and it was Tottenham who delayed the inevitable for so far, leaving themselves scrambling for options at the business end of the transfer window.
Now, every club in the world know that Tottenham have the money from the Kane sale and that they need a striker in the transfer market. They will make sure they make life difficult for the English club.
Tottenham though seem to be looking at a young striker with high potential to replace Kane in the long run. This kind of approach might mean they might have to spend less money on the player and the rewards would be humongous.
This is where Wahi comes in. The 20-year-old would perfectly fit the philosophy Tottenham are after. He has a very high ceiling and given the right time and development, he could turn out to be a genuine star.

The main challenge for Tottenham would be to agree on a fee with the selling club. Only time will tell if we manage to sign Wahi this summer.
