Ange Postecoglou reveals Tottenham Hotspur are not actively looking for a striker despite Harry Kane exit

Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has revealed that signing a new striker is not a priority for the club this summer despite losing Harry Kane.

Spurs lost their talisman in the ongoing transfer window after the England international decided to join Bayern Munich. The 30-year-old has gone off to a flying start at the Bavarians, scoring and providing an assist in his Bundesliga debut against Werder Bremen on 18 August.

With Kane’s departure, the North London side are left with Richarlison as the only natural number nine in the team. Although, Son Heung-min can also play up top when required.

Still, it is evident that Tottenham have lost a number of guaranteed goals with the English skipper’s departure. Therefore, it would only be prudent for the Lilywhites to add a prolific goalscorer to their ranks this summer.

However, speaking to the media via football.london, Postecoglou disclosed that Spurs are not actively looking to bolster the attack with a striker in the coming weeks.

“Not necessarily. I know that’s the obvious place people look at because of recent outgoings but we’d been planning for that for a while.”

Richarlison started in the number nine position in our opening game of the new season against Brentford away from home. The Gtech Community Stadium side were able to shut down the Brazil international.

The former Everton star had a tough game and was unable to make much of an impact against Thomas Frank’s team. The game at the Gtech Community Stadium side last weekend ended in a 2-2 draw.

It was our defenders who had to step up and deliver at Brentford. Cristian Romero opened the scoring for us, while Emerson Royal found the back of the net just before the break to equalise.

Postecoglou has a challenging task ahead of him. While Tottenham evidently need to add quality all around the pitch, the lack of goals in the team has the potential to derail our season. Therefore, it remains to be seen what Spurs will decide by the end of the window.
