Atletico Madrid are still interested in Tottenham Hotspur star Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg
According to Sport Mediaset, Spanish giants Atletico Madrid remain keen on Tottenham Hotspur star Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg ahead of the 2024 January transfer window.
The Danish star was heavily linked with an exit from the N-17 earlier this summer but a deal failed to materialise. Atletico were amongst the teams keen on his services and little appears to have changed since.
Hojbjerg has made six appearances for Tottenham across all competitions this season but it has accounted for only 169 minutes of action in total. He is far from a shoo-in when it comes to the starting XI and that is unlikely to change anytime soon.
Pape Matar Sarr has emerged as a key player under Ange Postecoglou and appears to be a solid fit for the Australian’s system. This has more or less relegated Hojbjerg to the bench.
At 28, the Dane is in the prime of his career and can be a major asset for most teams. His athleticism and physicality make him a formidable opponent in the middle of the park.
These attributes suit the brand of football employed by Diego Simeone at Atletico Madrid. Hojbjerg should fit right into the Argentine’s no-nonsense style of play and should help provide a solid base for the more attacking players to push forward.
Italian giants Juventus are also in the fray and could also make a move for the Spurs ace in January. Given Paul Pogba’s struggles with injuries, forms and now drugs, there is a void that Massimilano Allegri needs to fill in the middle of the park.

Hojbjerg has been a good servant to the club but eras change and everyone will need to adapt to it. He still has many years left in him and can thrive in a competitive side that can make better use of his abilities. Whether that is in January or next summer remains to be seen.
