Ray Parlour praises Tottenham Hotspur star James Maddison after his inspiring run of performances this season
Arsenal icon Ray Parlour has already labelled James Maddison to Tottenham Hotspur as the signing of the summer transfer window.
The former Leicester City midfielder completed his move to Spurs for a £40 million deal this summer. Such has been his impact in just six games that he has already been made the club’s vice-captain.
With six goal involvements, the English ace has raised Ange Postecoglou’s side’s performances to the next level. In a transfer market where elite teams battle for high-profile, costly signings, getting a player like Maddison at a bargain price seems like a masterstroke.
Former Arsenal player Parlour has hailed the 26-year-old and believes that he will be a ‘really big star’ at the North London club. While talking to Mighty Tips (as quoted by the Metro), he said:
“For me, and I’m going by the money as well, for what they paid for him, one is certainly James Maddison. I like players like him because he’s not always strait-laced.”
“I think Spurs have got a real gem on their hands now. I’m really pleased he’s back in England squad. So, I think James Madison will really be a big star at Tottenham.”
Parlour has raised the opinion that most of the Spurs’ fans will be giving their backing at this moment. Maddison’s performance against Arsenal likely brought back memories for the Lilywhites of having a truly creative force in their squad.
Beyond his on-the-ball skills, the midfielder’s character appears to be capable of shaping this new era under Postecoglou for Tottenham.
In recent years, the club has often been criticised as “soft,” “weak,” and prone to “bottling” important moments.
However, with their new star player taking the lead and his strong mentality, it’s expected that these negative labels will soon be a thing of the past.
It’s clear why Tottenham made a smart investment in bringing him to the team during the summer. The noticeable drop in Tottenham’s attacking drive, when he was substituted, highlights his vital role, not only in that particular game but also in the team overall.
He was at the core of all the positive aspects of the team, and what’s particularly promising for Spurs fans is his budding chemistry with Heung-min Son.
While Son had a remarkable partnership with Kane, Maddison‘s arrival has similarly fostered a natural understanding between the two players.
