Tottenham Hotspur star Eric Dier is on Jose Mourinho’s radar at AS Roma
According to Calciomercato, Tottenham Hotspur star Eric Dier could be in line to reunite with former boss Jose Mourinho at AS Roma.
The 29-year-old has been at Tottenham since 2014 and is one of our senior players on the senior roster. Dier was linked with an exit earlier this summer and is yet to make a single appearance under Ange Postecoglou this season.
Dier has made 360 appearances for us, scoring 13 goals and assisting 12 more in the process. A truly versatile player, he can fulfill several roles at the back and also in midfield if needed.
Dier’s usefulness at Tottenham could be coming to a close. The arrivals of Micky van de Ven and the emergence of Pape Matar Sarr have more or less given the club more options in the centre-back and defensive midfield rosters.
Given the duo’s excellent performances, Dier could struggle to regain his former pre-eminence in the squad. His current deal at Spurs expires in 2024 and the January transfer window provides us with the best and last opportunity to recoup a transfer fee.
Jose Mourinho, the former Tottenham boss is seeking a new defender at AS Roma. He is familiar with Dier and appears to hold a positive view of the veteran’s talents.
Roma are lacking in terms of reliable defenders and the Englishman could help fill that void. More so, he appears to have Mourinho’s trust -something that should help him settle in the Italian capital.

While Dier has been a reliable servant to the club, it makes sense for us to sell him in January as long as Postecoglou is fine with it. That money can be reinvested into the squad to bring in reinforcements who are a better fit for the Australian’s system.
