Mikel Arteta hoping to convince Tottenham target Ivan Toney to choose Arsenal
According to the Mirror, Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is hoping to convince talented English Brentford striker Ivan Toney to choose the Gunners amidst interest from Tottenham Hotspur and other clubs.
Tottenham, Arsenal and Chelsea are the teams tipped to battle it out for the signature of the English international who is currently not playing football due to a ban imposed on him by the FA. It will be over soon though.
Ivan Toney himself is said to be keen on leaving the Bees and feels like he is ready for the step up to the bigger clubs. Considering the kind of striker he is and the frequency with which he finds the back of the net, the interest is hardly surprising.

Arsenal are apparently ready to make the 27-year-old their primary target for the January transfer window and wants to beat the other competitors to his signature. Mikel Arteta seems to have taken the matter into his own hands.
Funnily though, they might find it the most difficult to convince the Englishman since they already have an established presence like Gabriel Jesus upfront and a reliable backup striker in Eddie Nketiah.
Chelsea on the other hand probably have the easiest run to try and convince Toney as they lack an established number nine. That said though, they are languishing midtable again this season and the Englishman might not be impressed.
Coming to Tottenham though, this transfer feels like a match made in heaven. Tottenham lost Harry Kane in the summer to Bayern Munich and decided not to sign a direct replacement. It is not like they have missed him either as they are flying high in the league under a resurgent Heung-min Son.
In terms of player profile, we cannot get a more similar replacement to Kane than Toney himself. Considering the fact that he needs to play in a Postecoglou team, the striker must be more than about just scoring goals and the Brentford man fits the bill perfectly.
