Chelsea are set for contract negotiations with Tottenham Hotspur target Conor Gallagher
According to The Daily Mail (h/t Metro), Chelsea are ready to begin negotiations with Tottenham Hotspur target Conor Gallagher regarding a new contract.
The 23-year-old has been on Spurs’ radar for some time now and was touted to leave Stamford Bridge earlier in the summer. Despite being linked with him all summer, a move to North London failed to materialise and Gallagher stayed put at Chelsea.
The youngster has since made nine appearances for the club across all competitions. He was also handed the armband by new manager Mauricio Pochettino, highlighting his growing importance to the Blues.
Gallagher is a product of the Cobham Academy and is fairly well-experienced for his age. Capable of playing a dual role in central midfield, the Englishman is an energetic athlete who is not afraid to get stuck in.
Injuries in the Blues roster have seen him garner opportunities, which this credit he has taken full advantage of. With the Blues now preparing a new deal, it is debatable if they are willing to let him move on anytime soon.
Tottenham might need an all-action midfield in January should Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg depart the club. The Dane has been heavily linked with an exit and one in the upcoming January transfer window appears plausible.
Gallagher certainly fits the bill of a player who can thrive under Ange Postecohlou. The Englishman could prove to be a major asset, but his potentially signing a new deal at Chelsea will throw a spanner in our plans.

It has been a remarkable return to prominence for Gallagher who was also named in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the upcoming international break. At least for now, chances of him swapping Blue for White appear unlikely.
