Tottenham hold talks with Johan Lange over director of football position
Tottenham Hotspur are actively exploring the possibility of appointing Aston Villa’s Johan Lange in the role of director of football, according to recent developments. The club has been in search of a successor for Fabio Paratici, who vacated the position in April after facing a ban from football-related activities.
Paratici’s departure came as a result of his involvement in a case related to the alleged inflation of capital gains from player trading, which led to a 30-month ban from FIFA. Although this ban was partially reduced upon appeal, Paratici decided to resign from his role.
In light of these developments, Tottenham have initiated exploratory discussions with Johan Lange regarding the vacant director of football position. That is via The Athletic (subscription required).
Johan Lange currently serves as the global director of football development and international academies at Aston Villa, a role he assumed in June this year as part of an internal restructuring at the Premier League club.
Lange to the Lilywhites?
Previously, he was the sporting director at Villa after taking charge in 2020. During his tenure at Villa, Lange played a pivotal role in overseeing crucial signings, including Ollie Watkins, Matty Cash, and Emiliano Martinez, and improving the club’s recruitment efforts.
Prior to his time at Villa, he served as the technical director at Copenhagen from May 2014 to July 2020.
The discussions surrounding Lange’s potential appointment have been taking place internally at Villa, although there is no formal agreement at this point.
It’s important to note that the director of football at Tottenham would report to Scott Munn, the chief football officer, who recently assumed the role after leaving his position as chief executive of City Football Group (CFG) China.
