Ange Postecoglou offers response on Tottenham star Micky van de Ven’s match-winning moment vs Luton
Tottenham Hotspur had to grind it out against Luton Town and Micky van de Ven was the unlikely match-winner for Ange Postecoglou’s side.
Yves Bissouma was sent off for two yellow card offences in the first half, with the second being for simulation in first-half stoppage time. Luton had a chance just after the restart.
But Spurs capitalised on theirs seven minutes after restart. Some nifty work from James Maddison on the byline created a great chance for Van de Ven, who finished the low pass with a brilliant finish.
The summer signing opened up his body to finish with his stronger left foot past Luton’s goalkeeper. Even the best strikers in the world would be proud of the finish.
But it seems it’ll take a little more than that to impress our gaffer. Postecoglou was asked to give his verdict on the Dutchman’s finish, to which he replied, via Football.London:
“Was it? I thought he just toe-poked it! I’ve got a higher standard. It was a fantastic finish but I don’t think there’ll be many highlights of it moving forward.”
Perhaps he was joking there, because it was genuinely an awesome finish for a young centre-back. It was a great defensive showing as well, and it seems we have signed a gem of a centre-back in the 22-year-old.
We have shown that away from home, a handicap like this cannot stop us from getting a big result. Spurs seem more like a team under Postecoglou than they have ever before under some of the world’s most renowned managers in recent seasons.

Harry Kane’s departure was supposed to destabilise the team but we have reacted in a brilliant way since then. Much of that can be attributed to Maddison as well, who has been truly one of the best players in the country this season.
Great times ahead.
