Micky van de Ven reveals Tottenham teammate Son Heung-min predicted he will score first club goal vs Luton Town

Micky van de Ven scored his first goal for Tottenham Hotspur in their Premier League win over Luton Town on Saturday.

Spurs agreed to pay a fee of €50million including add-ons to Wolfsburg in the summer for the 22-year-old starlet They didn’t really sign him to score goals.

But he showed incredible composure and skill to finish off a difficult chance early in the second half against Luton away from home. Reduced to 10 men just before half-time due to Yves Bissouma’s red card, Tottenham had their backs against the wall.

But some excellent work from James Maddison created the chance for the Dutch centre-back, who opened up his body and finished with his stronger left foot.

It wasn’t an easy chance, with the ball coming at him with speed and him having to take the shot first time. But it was all that separated the two teams at the end of the day, with Spurs going to the top of the table with 20 points from eight games.

After the game, Van de Ven stated that Son Heung-min saw it coming before kick-off. The defender told TNT Sports, via BBC:

“Yes, they were very happy for me [teammate’s reaction to his first club goal]. On the way to the stadium on the bus Sonny [Son Heung-min] told me: ‘You’re going to score your first goal today.’ I didn’t think so, I said: ‘Maybe, who knows!’ But it is perfect because now I have scored my first goal.”
