Ange Postecoglou agrees with Lionel Messi verdict on Tottenham superstar Cristian Romero

Tottenham Hotspur have had one of the most interesting starts to the season and are currently high-flying, finding themselves provisionally at the top of the Premier League table after a hard-fought 1-0 win against Luton Town.

Do not let the scoreline flatter you as Tottenham were much more dominant despite being down to ten men for the entirety of the second half. With better finishing, we could have finished with four or five goals today.

Richarlison missed the open goal twice in the opening minutes of the game and right-back Pedro Porro missed an absolute sitter a few minutes later. When Yves Bissouma was handed a red card just before the half-time whistle, one could have been forgiven for fearing the worst.

Tottenham teams of the past might have crumbled under pressure and would not have been able to win this game. Ange Postecoglou has made this team believe though and not for one second did they give up. Deservedly so, they got the goal.

Speaking in the post-match press conference as quoted by Football. London, manager Ange Postecoglou has explained how leadership has helped Tottenham Hotspur defender Cristian Romero mature and become more restraint.

“Yeah maybe and maybe it is a bit of maturity and that he feels comfortable with where he is at. Working with him, he’s just an outstanding defender. He is someone you definitely want in your team”

“Yes he does have that physicality about him, he’s a good player as well, his passing range, his ability to really position himself well, to stay calm and then just ridiculous bravery to always put his body in there. He’s just an outstanding defender”

In fact, Ange Postecoglou was asked about Lionel Messi’s take on Romero being the best defender in the world and here is what he had to say

“He’s good judge”

Cristian Romero is not someone who was known to be calm on the pitch. The Argentinian has the reputation of being overtly aggressive which has often had him in trouble with referees in the past.

However, as they say, with leadership comes responsibility and being appointed a vice-captain might have been the best thing that has happened to him as the player seems to have really matured.

Let’s see if Romero can keep this new persona going in moments that might make him flip out. Regardless, what we have seen is a positive change and we can be happy about it.
