Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal target Victor Nelsson won’t extend Galatasaray contract

Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal were apparently keen on signing Victor Nelsson from Galatasaray in the summer transfer window.

But it was Sevilla that came the closest. In a recent interview, the 24-year-old Dane revealed that everything was in place for him to move to Seville, only for the Turkish club to block the transfer.

He has also confirmed that he won’t extend his contract by another year. His current deal expires in the summer of 2026. Nelsson said, via Tipsbladet (h/t Evening Standard):

“It was very close with Sevilla. The flight was booked, but [the move] did not materialise. “I think that Galatasaray blocked the transfer. It’s no secret. They didn’t find the offer good enough. There has been interest and offers from clubs that I really want to join. I would have liked to have moved.”

Nelsson, who joined Galatasaray from Copenhagen in 2021, added:

“I have had some talks with them. I informed them after the last international break that I don’t want to extend my contract. I have three years left on my contract and I just can’t see myself extending another year.”

This could be the perfect chance for us to sign Nelsson, given Sevilla and Arsenal don’t return to the table for him. Eric Dier, after all, seems like he could be joining Sporting CP next year.

Micky van de Ven’s signing has bolstered our backline, with Cristian Romero a regular starter. But Clement Lenglet’s return to Barcelona (and subsequent loan move to Aston Villa) and Dier’s potential move to Sporting could leave us short in the position.

He is apparently valued at £21million, which is a decent fee for a player who is one of the finest up-and-coming centre-backs outside the top five leagues.

He is a fine player in the air and of an age where he has plenty of experience with room to get even better. Arsenal currently have Gabriel Magalhaes, Jakub Kiwior, William Saliba, Ben White, Jurrien Timber, and Takehiro Tomiyasu in that position.

So, hopefully, Nelsson sees which side of north London can provide him a more realistic chance for first-team football.
