Tottenham and South Korea star Son Heung-min drops positive injury update before Fulham showdown
Both South Korea and Tottenham Hotspur want Son Heung-min fit and available to play in every game possible, and that is very understandable.
He is the captain of both teams and arguably their best player (although we can debate that James Maddison is playing equally well for us this season). Jurgen Klinsmann unsurprisingly started the 31-year-old in South Korea’s friendly win over Vietnam earlier today
Spurs fans can’t really blame the German manager for that as he rested Son in South Korea’s 4-0 win against Tunisia just a few days earlier. South Korea led 2-0 at half-time against Vietnam at home.
But during the half-time break, the former Bayer Leverkusen winger was spotted hobbling down the tunnel. It raised concern among Tottenham fans and surely everyone associated with the club watching in N17.
Wise decision?
But to the surprise of many, Son came out in the second half. He even got on the scoresheet in the 61st minute and assisted Lee Kang-in’s goal to make it 5-0 on the night. South Korea scored another goal later on to seal the 6-0 scoreline.
Speaking after the game, Son said that he would have been really unhappy with himself if he didn’t play for his nation. He told Korean journalist Sungmo Lee, via Football.London:
“I discussed with the gaffer (Klinsmann) and said I will play the game as I cannot forgive myself if I don’t play for Korea national team in front of Korean fans when I already return to Korea.”
To be fair, a lot of people would have travelled to the Suwon World Cup Stadium to catch a glimpse of Son. Vietnam, with all due respect, aren’t a side that would give South Korea a lot of trouble, with or without Son.

Even the country’s fans wouldn’t have wanted Son to aggravate any potential injury. It was a risky call taken at a time when his team were in full control of an international friendly, but Tottenham fans know all about the winger’s determination and loyalty to supporters.
We can just be glad that he is coming back to N17 unscathed. Spurs return to action with an home league game against Fulham on 23 October.
