Guglielmo Vicario praises Tottenham star Hugo Lloris
Tottenham Hotspur’s search for Hugo Lloris‘ successor culminated in signing Guglielmo Vicario from Empoli this summer for £17.2million.
The Italian shot-stopper has since become our main man between the sticks and was also with Italy’s national team for their Euro qualifiers this month. He has impressed fans with his ability in possession and the surety he brings between the two sticks.
Lloris was, after all, becoming error-prone in the last few seasons. But the legendary Frenchman still has a lot to give to the club when it comes to providing help on the training pitch and the dressing room.
He is a senior player here and was our captain for years. Lloris knows the club inside out. Vicario has revealed that he has the utmost respect for the Italian and said that the Frenchman was helping him in training.
Lloris is a Spurs legend
He said via Football Daily (h/t Football.London):
“I have to respect Hugo [Lloris] for the big career he has had at Spurs and also with France he achieved a lot of trophies and finals. So big respect for him.
“He helps me a lot during training. It is good for me because it is my first year abroad, so a new culture and different way of playing football. The Premier League is different from Italy, so it is a big pleasure for me to train with him.”
Lloris is set to become a free agent at the end of the season. Now 36, the time has come for Spurs to end the association and for the player to go to a club where he can see out the twilight years of his career.
The 2018 FIFA World Cup winner with France will always be remembered as a legend by Spurs fans, even if he did struggle in recent seasons. Let us keep him here for the 2023-24 season because he is probably the best No. 2 in the world right now.
