Special clause in Micky van de Ven contract could see Tottenham paying up more than £9m to Wolfsburg
In addition to the £43m that Tottenham paid to secure his services, Spurs could face an additional £9m bill in case one of the clauses in Micky van de Ven’s contract stands met.
The Dutchman, with his stellar performances for the club so far, has quickly won over the fans of the club and is growing to become an important part of our squad.
Van de Ven has made eight appearances for the Spurs in the Premier League so far. The clause earlier mentioned, shall see itself triggered in case the Lilywhites manage to qualify for the newly formatted 2024 UEFA Champions League.
According to an item in the German newspaper SportBILD, via Sport Witness (h/t Express), chairman Daniel Levy agreed to insert a clause which specified Spurs would pay £8.6m if they qualify for the Champions League group stage next season. That looks to be a possibility, with five English teams potentially entering the competition.
Judging by the looks of it and the early form of all the clubs, there is no reason to believe that Ange Postecoglou’s men could not challenge for a spot in the UCL next year. After all, until now, Spurs are one of only two unbeaten teams in the English top tier.
Speaking of Van de Ven, the Dutchman signed in a deal worth £43m from Wolfsburg in July after a stellar season in the Bundesliga last year, with Spurs acting expeditiously to wrap up the deal as one of Postecoglou’s top targets.
