Pep Guardiola leaves the door open for Tottenham Hotspur target Kalvin Phillips to leave Manchester City

In what is good news for Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has made it clear that English ace Kalvin Phillips can leave the English champions.

The 27-year-old was a bonafide superstar at Leeds United and the English national side. However, his move to Manchester City has been largely offset by injuries and a reduced role, largely off the bench.

Phillips started England’s game against Italy in the international break while also coming off the bench against Australia. However, he has yet to make a single start for Manchester City this season in the Premier League or Europe. If anything, it shows his standing in the pecking order at The Etihad.

According to The Guardian, Pep Guardiola has now admitted that he will not stand in Phillips’ way should the Englishman want out. The Spaniard is not someone to change his mind and has made it clear now.

“I never change. I said a few months ago, but after that they have to agree with the club. My opinion is my opinion. The last word belongs to the club.”

Despite how Guardiola feels about it, he insists that the final decision, however, lies with the club. Manchester City can afford to replace a player of Phillips’ quality just as easily as we would like to think they are game for a sale should a reasonable offer appear.

This could present Tottenham with an opportunity to make a move for a player they were previously linked with. The upcoming 2024 January transfer window represents the first opportunity for us to make a move and get the 27-year-old to North London.

Phillips is a solid presence in the middle of the park and can thrive in Ange Postecoglou’s all-action system. He is in the prime of his career and a deal for the right price in January could be worth its weight in gold.

Phillips is a sensational player currently at the wrong club and it is in his best interests to seek a move that will help resurrect his career. Time will tell whether Tottenham will be the club to provide him that.
