Ben Jacobs talks about Sheikh Jassim’s interest in Tottenham Hotspur
The recent revelation by journalist Ben Jacobs has ushered in a new dimension to the speculation regarding Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani’s interest in Tottenham Hotspur.
Following a failed attempt to secure Manchester United, it was believed that the Sheikh’s attention might have shifted towards Spurs. However, Jacobs’ insights suggest a different narrative.
According to a report in The Mirror, post the unsuccessful Manchester United deal, it was conjectured that Sheikh Jassim might turn his gaze towards Tottenham Hotspur. The report underscored that Daniel Levy, the club’s chairman, had previous engagements with Qatari-based groups to bolster investments, though no fruitful deal has been carved out till now.
Ben Jacobs, shedding light on the matter, mentioned that as of now, no dialogue has been initiated between Sheikh Jassim and Tottenham Hotspur. He emphasized that Sheikh Jassim’s fervour was solely for Manchester United.
“There’s been links with Spurs and Inter. And again, I’m told that at this stage, there’s been no discussions for either of those clubs either. So there’s no guarantee that Sheikh Jassim has a burning hole in his pocket to buy a football club. Sources indicate that this was about Manchester United, rather than finding a club, and if Qatar therefore are to invest in another big club, through whatever means, I’m not convinced that it will be specifically Nine Two Foundation and Sheikh Jassim.”
This isn’t the maiden instance where Spurs found itself amidst Qatari investment talks. Earlier in the year, reports surfaced about a rendezvous between Nasser Al-Khelaifi, PSG’s president and the helm of Qatar Sports Investments, and Daniel Levy.
The club also welcomed Scott Munn as the new Chief Football Officer and Johan Lange as the new Sporting Director, embodying a reinvigorated ethos thanks to manager Ange Postecoglou and the way he is making the team play.
