Tottenham join Napoli among other clubs in race for Fenerbahce’s Ismail Yuksuk
Fenerbahce’s Ismail Yuksek is apparently garnering interest from a lot of top teams in Europe, with Tottenham Hotspur also included on the list.
According to Turkish outlet Aksam, Bayern Munich and Napoli have been tracking the defensive midfielder for a while. Now, West Ham United and Spurs are said to be on the list.
The 24-year-old plays as a No. 6 and specialises in shielding his team’s defence and kickstarting counterattacks from deep. He has played in 15 games across competitions this season, showing his importance within the Fener squad.
The report adds that the teams will follow the Turkish international until the January transfer window in 2024. It remains to be seen if Spurs will make a move for him, because we have quite a situation developing in our midfield.
What should Spurs do?
Giovani Lo Celso continues to be a player who is on the fringes of the squad. Ange Postecoglou doesn’t seem to favour him, as is the case with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, who is heavily linked with an exit.
If the 28-year-old Denmark international does leave Spurs, it would make a lot of sense to sign Yuksek. Even if he doesn’t, then the extra depth won’t hurt in midfield.
Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr, after all, are set to represent Mali and Senegal, respectively, at the AFCON this season. During that time, we can use the extra cover.
But beyond that, we must sell some players before signing anyone in the position so that firstly, we can reduce needless competition and fill the squad with players Postecoglou wants to use. And secondly, we can then free up some space on the wage bill and potentially raise the cash.

One can imagine Yuksek won’t be the cheapest signing in the world, given his contract expires only in June 2027 (Transfermarkt).
