Tottenham Hotspur open to selling Juventus target Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in January but on one condition
According to the Mirror, Tottenham Hotspur don’t want to sell Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in the January transfer window without securing a replacement signing for him.
That is because Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr, who represent Mali and Senegal, respectively, could miss two to four games due to AFCON during the ongoing season. Hojbjerg, the report adds, drew interest from Atletico Madrid and Fulham in the summer.
However, the Denmark international ended up staying at Spurs for another season. That decision hasn’t seemed to work out for anyone, with the player receiving just 125 minutes of Premier League action so far.
Ange Postecoglou doesn’t seem to fancy him in his starting XI, even with Rodrigo Bentancur’s injury that has forced the Uruguayan to miss the start of the season. One can imagine Hojbjerg’s fate when Bentancur returns.
What next for Hojbjerg?
It is best to part ways with the 28-year-old before we risk losing him on a free transfer or a reduced fee later on. His current deal at Spurs expires in June 2025 (Transfermarkt) and his performances under Antonio Conte and Cristian Stellini would still be fresh in the minds of potential suitors.
Of course, he will be an elite backup option to have. Some fans would even think he is starting XI material despite the club’s good form without him in recent months.
But one can imagine that the former Bayern Munich and Southampton midfielder would want to play regularly at this age. He still has a lot to offer and a team like Juventus, who are currently interested in him, could potentially offer him that at a very high level.

It remains to be seen what happens in January. But one thing is for certain — Tottenham must keep in mind that Sarr and Bissouma could be gone for weeks when AFCON starts. Giovani Lo Celso and Bentacur could be used more prominently then, but we will need more backup during that time.
