Victor Osimhen showers praise on Tottenham Hotspur superstar Cristian Romero
Napoli’s Victor Osimhen has said that he was ‘shocked’ when he came face-to-face with Tottenham Hotspur’s Cristian Romero on the field.
The Nigerian international even said that the Argentine centre-back was the most difficult defender he had faced. He said TVPLAY, via AlbicelesteTalk on X (h/t Football.London);
“Cristian Romero was really the most difficult defender I have faced. The first time we met, I was impressed by his speed. I experienced very, very intense duels against him. I was shocked.”
Osimhen has quickly become one of the world’s best strikers. The 24-year-old helped Napoli to the Serie A title last season and so far, has six goals in 10 games across competitions this term.
Well deserved praise
His praise for Romero, hence, carries extra weight. Osimhen is himself very quick and strong on the ball and he has what it takes to beat defenders 1v1. Romero is no slouch either.
The Argentine’s speed, agility, and comfort in possession make him a very good ball-playing centre-back. Romero has faced Osimhen thrice in his career, all for Atalanta against Napoli.
Romero’s side won, lost, and drew one game each during that time. Osimhen scored just once in those three games, which came in a 4-1 Napoli win in October 2020. The Nigerian striker’s future is up in the air, and Liverpool are said to be interested.
Will he make a good addition to Spurs? Of course, he would be an asset to any team. But it remains to be seen if the Lilywhites will want to sign a high-profile striker in the near future.
