Ange Postecoglou hints at future plans after Tottenham Hotspur job

Ange Postecoglou has hinted that he won’t join his former clubs after his tenure at Tottenham Hotspur.

The Greek-Australian manager joined Spurs this summer as the club’s new head coach. Among a host of clubs in Australia and Japan, Postecoglou also managed the Australian national team and Celtic.

Mauricio Pochettino is returning to Tottenham Hotspur after four years in the Premier League. The talk surrounding the Argentine manager returning to a club where fans loved him so dearly has dominated headlines.

Poch, in fact, was among the names linked with Spurs this summer before Daniel Levy opted against the move. Ange was similarly asked before the clash against Chelsea on Monday in north London if he would go back to a former club.

Postecoglou has a cheeky response for everything

The former Celtic manager jokingly said, via Football.London:

“No, knowing my nature it’s unlikely. Once they’re exes, they’re exes mate! You’ve messed with my head now! I feel like whenever I’ve left, I’ve left on the back of success and I like to leave that memory as it is. I just don’t think there’s any real purpose… I wouldn’t see myself going back anywhere I’ve been but who knows.”

“But who knows” is a good phrase to use here. From Jose Mourinho managing Spurs to Antonio Conte, well, managing Spurs, there have been surprise appointments in football — appointments fans never saw coming because of the rivalry between Chelsea and Tottenham.

Right now, the focus shouldn’t be on Postecoglou’s time after Tottenham. He is just getting started here and he has a proper project to look after. Dare we say, he has been a world-class appointment.

And at this point, not many fans would want to swap him for Pochettino. Moreover, and this is just our opinion, Ange hasn’t managed a truly global team before Tottenham. Of course, Celtic are giants of the game.

But Spurs’ reach as a Premier League club is unmatched in Postecoglou’s career. Celtic and Australian national team would be the two most lucrative ‘exes’ for Ange to join if he ever wanted to go back to an old club. But then again… who knows what football has in store for us in the future?
