Ange Postecoglou talks about the red card that Tottenham Hotspur star Cristian Romero got
From the first week of the campaign until last night, there were many things that caught the eye with respect to Tottenham Hotspur under Ange Postecoglou and one of them was how mature and calm Cristian Romero seemed to have become.
For all his ability and talent, the former Atalanta man is always known for having a wild side and has been quite reckless in the past. Vice-captaincy combined with Ange’s coaching seemed to have helped him get over it.
In the cinematic universe, we have all been used to seeing a hero who lives a subdued life in the present have an extraordinary past that comes out when triggered. Romero yesterday would have made a great hero.
Yes, the Argentinian got the ball but he could not control his follow through. The question here though is whether that tackle was needed in the first place. Could Cristian Romero have handled that situation better?
Romero is a one-of-a-kind defender. He might not be the same player if you take his aggression away from him. That said, it’s important to know when to curb your instincts and when to let it lose.
Speaking about the sending-off, here is what Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou had to say about Romero
“He’s a physical guy. It’s a part of his strengths and today it was deemed he went too far and we’ve just got to cop it”
The Australian manager will know that this moment in the game was what changed it upside down in favour of Chelsea as the North Londoners were absolutely dominant until then. They even had the lead.
Cristian Romero will need to take a serious look at himself for the way he defends. Teams can bounce back from conceding a goal but when you go down to 10-men against a team like Chelsea, there is not much you can do.

The Argentinian has shown in the past that he is a fast learner. Romero will hope to take this on the chin, learn from this and learn to use his instincts better. We cannot wait to have him back, especially with Micky van de Ven also suffering an injury.
