Ange Postecoglou offers an update on injured Tottenham Hotspur duo
Everything seemed to be going well for Tottenham Hotspur this season. Exceptional performances, continuous wins, breathtaking football – the stars finally seemed to be aligned under Ange Postecoglou.
However, we are Tottenham. When disaster strikes, it doesn’t just injure us. It brings the whole roof down. Yesterday, against Chelsea, in the Premier League, everything that could have gone wrong went wrong for the club.
Tottenham started off in typical fashion. Energetic, always on the press, and always looking one step ahead of their opposition, Spurs managed to get an early lead thanks to the impressive Dejan Kulusevski.
Chelsea then scored a goal only to see it ruled out or a handball in the build-up and then though they had scored another one when Caicedo hit from range, only for that to be chalked off for the most minuscule of offsides.
At this point, Tottenham would have thought that it was their day. Not even 30 seconds later, they would have hoped that the Caicedo goal had actually stood, as the referee went back to visit a previous challenge by Cristian Romero, which, harshly got him a red card.
Minutes later, the wheels seemed to come off Tottenham’s campaign with Micky van de Ven suffering what seemed like a potentially long-term injury and James Maddison also taking a knock. The duo were substituted.
Speaking about the situation, here is what Postecoglou had to say about how their injuries looked
“It’s too early but looking at Micky you’re thinking it’s a pretty significant one so you’d assume he’ll be out for a little while. Madders got a knock on the ankle and we’ll just have to assess him and see how it is”
Romero is set to miss out on one if not more games for his red card and Micky van de Ven looks set to be out for a significant period. The silver lining was the performance of Eric Dier who was outrageous in defence last night.
