Juventus send personnel to scout Tottenham Hotspur star Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg
Tottenham midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has recently garnered the attention of Italian giants Juventus, who are considering a move for the Denmark international in the upcoming January transfer window.
The Italian club is facing a midfield crisis with Paul Pogba suspended for a doping violation and Nicolo Fagioli serving a ban for breaching betting rules.
During the summer transfer window, Hojbjerg was a subject of interest from various clubs, including Fulham. The Danish midfielder was on Fulham’s radar as they sought to strengthen their squad, and the uncertainty surrounding Joao Palhinha’s future at Craven Cottage added to the intrigue. However, Palhinha ultimately remained at the club and signed a new contract. Hojbjerg also saw himself under consideration at Manchester United.
According to The Telegraph [subscription required], Juventus sent their sporting director, Cristiano Giuntoli, along with his assistant, to closely watch Hojbjerg in action during Tottenham’s clash against Chelsea.
Hojbjerg to move soon?
This move certainly signals Juventus’ keen interest in the 28-year-old midfielder, as they seek to reinforce their central midfield options. In the recent clash against Chelsea, Hojbjerg made a significant impact when he came on as a substitute at halftime, replacing James Maddison.
This marked one of his limited appearances this season, with Ange Postecoglou often preferring the midfield partnership of Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr. That will also soon change, given Rodrigo Bentancur is closing towards a full return and will potentially replace Sarr in the starting XI, more often than not.
Hojbjerg’s reduced playing time at Tottenham has drawn attention to his potential availability in the upcoming January transfer window. He has only started one Premier League game this season, and with just one full season left on his Spurs contract (Transfermarkt), there is speculation that he could be on the move. During the previous summer, it was anticipated that offers for Hojbjerg could have been in the range of £25m.
