Former Chelsea captain John Terry aims a dig at Tottenham star James Maddison
In the world of football rivalries, the sparks fly not only on the pitch but also in the digital domain, as was evident recently when Chelsea legend John Terry engaged in some playful banter with Tottenham star James Maddison.
Chelsea secured a resounding win against their London rivals, Tottenham, and John Terry, the former Chelsea captain, couldn’t resist commemorating the occasion. Taking to his Instagram account, Terry shared a video dancing on the bar.
Madders was quick to respond to this asking whether Terry did not pay attention to the telly when both teams had 11 players on the pitch. The exchange was a humorous nod to Tottenham’s early lead in the game. Dejan Kulusevski’s deflected strike provided Tottenham with a bright start.
However, two red cards, one for each side, in quick succession, coupled with Cole Palmer’s penalty, shifted the game’s dynamics. Despite Tottenham’s valiant efforts, Chelsea emerged victorious, thanks to a Nicolas Jackson hat-trick. Responding to Madders‘ comment, here is what Terry had to say via Instagram (h/t Daily Star) after adding three laughing emojis:
“Don’t worry mate you will get used to it.”
Banter off-the-field
This light-hearted banter between Terry and Maddison exemplifies the camaraderie and competition that make football so enthralling. While the two clubs may be arch-rivals on the pitch, off it, there’s room for a bit of humour and mutual respect.
It also comes down to them both working together before during their time at Leicester City. Tottenham fans might be disappointed with the outcome of the match against Chelsea, but there’s no denying that the spirit of competition and the way we played with nine men was truly commendable.
Ange Postecoglou would make sure that the Lilywhites do not make such mistakes to go down a man down, or in this instance, two men down, and put our best foot forward in the quest of ending our trophy drought.
