Tottenham Hotspur star James Maddison this back at fan on Instagram following Chelsea hammering
Tottenham Hotspur star James Maddison remains bullish despite our 4-1 hammering against Chelsea last Monday night in the English Premier League. Spurs took the lead thanks to Dejan Kulusevski on the night and it remained our lone high point of the day.
Son Heung-min appeared to have doubled our lead midway through the first half only for it to be ruled out due to offside. While we did catch a couple of lucky breaks ourselves, the sending-offs of Cristian Romero and Destiny Udogie proved costly.
Maddison too was forced off in the first half with an injury and could do little to impact the result on the night. Despite the criticism coming our way following the loss, the English star is in no mood to back down.
The Spurs ace was involved in banter of sorts with Chelsea icon John Terry on Instagram with the veteran asking Maddison to take a day off given the scoreline. According to football.london, Instagram user fraserleach_fmpt wanted a piece of the action and went on to tell Maddison to pipe down.
However, the 26-year-old was in no mood to back down and swiftly responded “Pipe down gym king”, perhaps in reference to the fan being a sports management graduate who is built well. While the to and fro appeared to be light-hearted, it does show the English star’s winning mentality that has aided Tottenham to mount a title challenge so far this season.
We are still one point off leaders Manchester City and will travel to The Molineux to play Wolverhampton Wanderers before the November international break. With injuries and suspensions piling up, Spurs can hopefully get back to winning ways and then use the break to self-introspect and get back on track.
Tottenham can be proud of themselves for giving it their all with just nine men but then the tactical naivety that saw us defend on the halfway line was nothing but hara-kiri. Time will tell whether Ange Postecoglou was sticking to his principles or lacked a plan B.
Chelsea could have scored far more had they been more clinical and possessed players who were actually aware of the offside rule. Whether it be against 11 men of nine, we ended up on the losing side in the end and it is now time to put the result behind us.

While we do want Tottenham players to be more forthcoming, it would be poor taste for Maddison to shoot his mouth after a loss. After all, we were on the other side against Liverpool and did the same thing. The best way for the 26-year-old to silence his detractors is on the pitch and hopefully, he will continue to do just that.
