Tottenham Hotspur are keen to bring in Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic
Tottenham Hotspur have so far failed to adequately replace Harry Kane on their roster and it thus comes as no surprise that Serbian striker Dusan Vlahovic is linked with a move to North London.
Spurs under Ange Postecoglou look like a potent outfit going forward in terms of crafting goalscoring opportunities sans Kane than they did with the English skipper in their ranks. However, while we have been exciting, the lack of killer instinct in front of goal has cost us dear.
Tottenham have found the back of the net 29 times in the Premier League this season. Postecoglou’s side have the seventh-most potent frontline in the top division, with the likes of Liverpool, Manchester City, Arsenal, Aston Villa, Newcastle United and Brighton & Hove Albion all outgunning us.
Curiously, according to Premierleague.com, Spurs have managed to garner 241 shots so far in the league, a tally bettered only by Liverpool. In fact, Tottenham’s conversion rate is a mere 12 per cent.
To further make the point, only 88 of Tottenham’s 241 strikes have been on target. This points to Postecoglou’s men landing around 36 per cent of their shots on target, increasing their odds of conversion to over 24 per cent, doubling their rate of scoring for all shots combined.
It is pretty clear that a no-nonsense striker leading the line could help Spurs turn the tide in their favour. Harry Kane excelled at that and while the current lot have impressed, few on an individual level have the same game-winning ability as the English skipper.
Vlahovic is a serial goal-getter who rose to fame with his performances for Fiorentina. While he continues to score for Juventus, his numbers have taken a hit. One could argue that it is a by-product of Massimiliano Allegri’s pragmatic yet effective style of football.
There is reason to believe that the 23-year-old can ramp up his tally should he play for a side such as Tottenham who create several chances to find the back of the net. Spurs remain keen on the player and according to TVPlay (h/t The Express) are ready to offer £68.5million to Juventus for his services.
Kane averaged 3.4 shots per game last season while Vlahovic averages 2.7 per game in 2023/24. Vlahovic’s numbers are better than that of both Son Heung-min (2.3 SPG) and Richarlison (2), and closer to that of Mohamed Salah (2.9 SPG) this season. Surely given the number of opportunities we create, Vlahovic will certainly put games to bed for us, denying the opposition the opportunity to make a late comeback.

While some would state that Liverpool aren’t much better in the game of percentages, Tottenham have failed to find the back of the net more than once in four of their last five Premier League games. Given that we have lost all four, one can argue that the inability to put a game to bed is what has cost us dear of late.
With Tottenham expected to continue their gung-ho style of play, it is imperative that they outscore the opposition more often than not. An infallible goal-getter leading the line will certainly boost their hopes of ensuring that shootouts don’t end in the opposition’s favour. Time and intent will decide whether Vlahovic can be that man.
