Tottenham eye a move for Bournemouth centre-back Ilya Zabarnyi

Tottenham Hotspur’s recent defensive struggles, highlighted by conceding 13 goals in the last five games, have intensified their pursuit of defensive reinforcements, with Bournemouth’s Ilya Zabarnyi emerging as a key target for manager Ange Postecoglou.

The urgency to bolster the defensive line has become paramount for Spurs, especially with players like Micky van de Ven and Eric Dier sidelined due to injuries. Dier is the third-choice centre-back for Tottenham. He saw himself out of the squad to face Manchester City as he pulled up sore after training ahead of the game.

The recent defensive lapses have exposed vulnerabilities, prompting the club to explore potential solutions in the January transfer window.

Illia Zabarnyi has remained on Tottenham’s radar since their earlier attempts to secure a deal with Dynamo Kyiv in 2022. However, the 21-year-old Ukrainian opted for a £20m move to Bournemouth in January 2022. The Mirror says Tottenham are considering a move for the player.

Zabarnyi’s performances at the Vitality Stadium have been pivotal to Bournemouth’s defensive solidity, and his consistent displays have not gone unnoticed by Tottenham’s scouting team.

The Cherries’ resurgence under manager Andoni Iraola has provided Zabarnyi with an opportunity to showcase his defensive prowess, elevating his game to new heights. His ability to read the game, make crucial interceptions, and contribute to a better and committed defensive unit aligns with Tottenham’s immediate needs.

His skill set and familiarity with the English game gained through his stint at Bournemouth, certainly make him an enticing prospect for Tottenham’s defensive reinforcement. The 21-year-old’s potential arrival would not only address immediate defensive concerns but also contribute to the squad’s long-term stability. Keep in mind we have yet to replace Davinson Sanchez.
