Dejan Kulusevski earns praise from Ange Postecoglou for excelling in his new role
Tottenham Hotspur defeated Nottingham Forest in a thrilling fashion. The Lilywhites secured the game by a two-goal margin despite losing Yves Bissouma in the 70th minute to a red card. Manager Ange Postecoglou lauded his team, but Dejan Kulusevski specifically.
The Swedish international scored one and assisted another to seal the deal for Spurs. Speaking to MOTD as quoted by the BBC, The Tottenham boss said,
“He [Dejan Kulusevski] has been great for us all year. He started in the middle for us today, looked dangerous, then when Brennan [Johnson] went off he went back out wide and had the quality of delivery.”
Spurs had to make tactical changes following Bissouma’s dismissal. Oliver Skipp was dropped further down the pitch in an attempt to maintain the two-goal lead the club had. The switch saw Kulusevski work harder alongside Son even in the absence of Brennan Johnson.
The Spurs number 21 is enjoying a fine run of form this season. He has five goals and two assists under his belt from 17 Premier League games. His performance has earned him plaudits from the gaffer.
The Serbian international has taken over the mantle especially after James Maddison got sidelined. Despite being a natural winger, Dejan Kulusevski is serving his manager in multiple positions.
Where does Kulusveski fit in Ange Postcoglou’s upgraded plans?
The Londoners are not short on the injury list. This has urged the Tottenham head coach to rely heavily on his current set of players. Apart from Son-Heung Min, it is Dejan Kulusveski who has come to his manager’s rescue.
There were concerns around playmaking after James Maddison’s injury blow. However, a tactical switch moved Kulusveski to the centre of the pitch from the flank. The change in playing role seems to working for both parties as Spurs secured back-to-back victories with the Serb at the heart of midfield.
Spurs are on their way back up top after failing to capitalise on their strong start. Ange Postcoglou is heavily reliant on a handful of players at his disposal now.
