Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou has big decisions to make surrounding captain Son Heung-min

Following Richarlison’s return from his injury layoff, Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou now has a big decision to make whether or not to stick the Brazilian upfront or continue to stick with club captain Son Heung-min leading the frontline.

Even well before his injury period, Richarlison had a very tough time in front of goal and left fans frustrated with his low G/A output. However, upon his return, he scored a brace against a tough Newcastle United side and also found the back of the net against Nottingham Forest.

Son, on the other hand, considering his form, could score a goal sitting in the stands as well. Irrespective of where he plays out from, the South Korean international is a threat to any opposition. Putting him in front of goal is making the best use of his ability to trouble the scorers.

In 18 appearances across all competitions this season, he has 10 goals and four assists to boot. Third highest goalscorer this season, just one behind Liverpool superstar Mohamed Salah.

Son or Richy?

The decision to choose between Richarlison and Son Heung-min is not only a tactical conundrum for Postecoglou but also a testament to the attacking depth and versatility within the Tottenham squad. Both players bring unique attributes to the attack, and the manager’s decision will likely hinge on the specific tactical approach he aims to employ against different opponents.

What works best is probably deciding on the lineup according to the opposition. As the season progresses, Postecoglou’s choices in the attacking department will be closely examined, and the ongoing competition between Richarlison and Son for the leading role in the frontline adds an exciting dimension to Tottenham’s offensive dynamics.
