Tottenham goalkeeper put up a show against Nottingham Forest and earned praise from Jamie Carragher
Tottenham Hotspur eased past Nottingham Forest with a scintillating 0-2 win. The game was nothing short of a nail-biter for Spurs fans who were hoping for the club to register back-to-back wins. Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher had words of praise for Guglielmo Vicario after the game.
Spurs went a man down in the 70th minute following a red card received by Yves Bissouma. The Lilywhite also lost Brennan Johnson to injury early in the game, making things further difficult for Ange Postcoglou. Despite being outplayed by the visitors, Forest put up quite a fight and came close twice.
If it wasn’t for Vicario, Nottingham Forest would have drawn level in the 84th minute. According to BBC, Jamie Carragher expressed his admiration by saying,
“Unbelievable save! That was absolutely fantastic from Vicario. He’s going backwards and does really well. He just throws his legs at it and keeps it out.”
Vicario wasn’t called into action much during the game. But, he stepped up bravely whenever the situation called for it. Apart from the brilliant save that earned him praise from Carragher, he also made a crucial save in the 95th minute.
What makes Vicario’s save crucial?
Tottenham have a history of conceding late goals. The game against Wolves, where they conceded two injury-time goals is a testament to the same. It doesn’t end there. Postcoglou’s men blew their leads against Aston Villa and West Ham in the following games.
Considering their history, it is certain that Vicario’s save kept them alive in the contest. Considering Spurs’ current state, even the smallest elements could make a massive difference.
Tottenham secured Vicario from Empoli for a humble £17.2m. He is proving his worth so far and is most likely to continue to do so.

The head coach, who is dealing with a pile of problems, requires each player to step up. A performance like this should further cement Guglielmo Vicario’s position within the team. The Italian shot-stopper is quite an important figure within the Spurs squad as of now and the fans would expect nothing less from him for the remainder of the season.
