Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg might be joining Serie A giants Juventus
According to the Italian outlet Calcio Mercato, Danish midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is on the verge of leaving Tottenham Hotspur in the upcoming transfer window and it is likely that Juventus can be his next home.
The newly appointed manager, Ange Postecoglou, is eager to overhaul his squad, and Hojbjerg is among a number of players who may depart this summer.
Hojberg became an important member of the team since leaving Southampton for Spurs in 2020. In 162 appearances, he has scored ten goals and provided sixteen assists. The Tottenham player is still only 28 years old, but his position has plummeted since the start of this season. In his midfield, Ange Postecoglou has a clear preference for the partnership of Pape Matar Sarr and Yves Bissouma.
He was a constant presence for Tottenham throughout the previous season, as they fell short of securing a spot in Europe after ending up in eighth place in the Premier League standings. It is seen that Postecoglou haven’t used the midfielder so often having only started three times for the team.
This summer Postecoglou will be given the task of ironing out some of these rookie errors and leading Spurs back to those coveted Champions League berths, since he had a two year stint in Scotland’s Premier division with Celtic.
Nevertheless, the Australian manager is in dire need of substantial reinforcements from the upcoming summer transfer window. It is crucial to generate sufficient funds in order to revamp a lacklustre squad. Now, that Paul Pogba is banned for two years after being tested positive for drugs test.
For cases such as this, the maximum suspension can be up to four years. Firstly, a two-year ban is imposed but can be doubled if the substance was taken purposely. As a result, Pogba’s Juventus contract might be terminated. Hojbjerg is a player who has the potential to step in and potentially earn more playing time in the league. His experience in a fast-paced league like the English league could help him quickly adapt to the team.
