Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou ‘unhappy’ with Yves Bissouma
Tottenham Hotspur faced a bittersweet outcome in their recent 2-0 victory against Nottingham Forest as midfielder Yves Bissouma received a straight red card, leaving him suspended for four matches and Ange Postecoglou short of midfield options.
This unfortunate turn of events compounds the challenges for Spurs, especially considering it’s Bissouma’s second red card of the season.
The dismissal comes at a critical juncture, with the midfielder set to join his national team for the African Cup of Nations, keeping him away from Tottenham until February. This setback will undoubtedly be a source of disappointment for manager Ange Postecoglou, who views Bissouma as a crucial figure in the number six role within his squad.
Bissouma made contact with Forest captain Ryan Yates after he played a pass, and caught him very high with his studs. The red card was not very debatable, to be honest.
Journalist Alasdair Gold, sharing insights on the ‘Gold and Guest Talk Tottenham’ podcast, suggested that Postecoglou is likely to be privately unhappy with Bissouma due to the rash challenge that led to the red card.
“I’m sure he’s unhappy with Bissouma privately, he must be.”
“The guy is such a talented player and he’s missed so much football for Spurs and he’s going to have by the time he returns in February.”
“Especially because he sees him as someone who is so integral in this number six role in his squad.”
Already facing so many injury issues coupled with Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr heading out to AFCON, the manager now has a huge task putting together a strong midfield.
Ange, with his emphasis on a high-intensity and possession-based style of play, will now need to navigate through a period without a key component of his midfield.
Bissouma’s return in February will be eagerly awaited, but in the meantime, it presents an opportunity for other players to step up and fill the void left by the talented midfielder.
