Tottenham Hotspur can gun for arch-rivals Arsenal FC’s 55-game scoring streak
According to Bein Sports, Tottenham Hotspur remains the only team maintaining their ‘scoring streak,’ distinguishing themselves among rivals who have faltered in an effort to catch up with Arsenal. Brighton suffered a 0-2 loss against Arsenal, while Liverpool managed a goalless draw against United. This places Ange Postecoglou’s team as the lone contender chasing this remarkable record.
Tottenham’s 2-0 victory over Nottingham Forest solidifies their position as the only team in the league to reach double figures in consecutive scoring. The London-based club is currently enjoying a 29-game scoring streak, positioning them tied for fifth in Premier League history. Manchester City also held a similar streak before their defeat to Wolves in September 2019. Spurs embarked on their streak subsequent to a loss against the same opponents in March.
The club underwent several managerial changes as the leadership transitioned from Antonio Conte to caretakers Cristian Stellini and Ryan Mason, ultimately landing in the hands of Ange Postecoglou. Spurs commenced the season in impressive form under their new manager.
They remained unbeaten in the initial 10 games but suffered five losses and a draw in the subsequent five fixtures. Nonetheless, the Lilywhites consistently managed to score at least one goal. The question remains whether Tottenham can secure this remarkable record.
Arsenal owns the ‘much-coveted’ record
Arsene Wenger’s team went on a rampant run, establishing a record-scoring streak spanning 55 games. This impressive feat occurred between May 2001 and November 2002, encompassing the final game of the 2000-01 season, the entire 2001-02 Golden title-winning season, and the first 16 games of the subsequent season.
The streak was eventually halted by eventual winners Manchester United, who defeated the Gunners 2-0. The Red Devils hold the second position with a distant streak of 36 games, achieved from December 2007 to November 2008. This record is equalled by Liverpool, who scored in every game from March 2019 to February 2020.
Brighton hold a surprise position on the list with a 32-game streak under the manager Roberto De Zerbi. As for Spurs, the journey remains lengthy. As fans, we can say that registering the record would not even be the last thing on Postecoglou’s list of priorities.
