Tottenham loanee Japhet Tanganga is all set to return home after failing to register any playing time at Augsburg
Japhet Tanganga is tipped to return to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium from Augsburg come January. According to German media outlet Kicker (h/t football.london), the English defender’s services are no longer required in Augsburg.
Tanganga joined the Bundesliga outfit in September this year with an option to make the deal permanent. The 24-year-old spent the subsequent two months on the sidelines owing to a knee injury. He was an unused substitute for the away game at FC Koln.
Things didn’t get better for the stopper as he failed to make it to the squad for the following five games. Jess Thorup is currently trusting his specific set of players. Unfortunately for Tanganga, he isn’t a part of it.
The defender’s story was not quite different back home as well. He didn’t register any significant playing time at the London club. The move to Augsburg was an attempt to put his skills to use, but alas! Marred by a knee injury, his German visit became a nightmare within two months.
The future looks uncertain for Japhet Tanganga
By the looks of it, Tanganga will be nothing more than a burden at Tottenham. Ange Postecoglou has slots open at the heart of his defence, however, he is already pursuing ‘established’ stars.
Micky van de Ven’s injury cost Tottenham dearly, leaving Postecoglou to deploy his backup options. On the other hand, Cristian Romero’s recklessness is mounting concerns for the Lillywhites coach.
The Aussie manager must avoid risking an inexperienced Tanganga as he is slowly building the team back up. Tottenham are already chasing Morato from SL Benfica and Jean-Claire Todibo from Nice. A centre-back recruitment is on the top priority list for the manager this winter transfer window.

The viable option left for Tanganga is another loan move. However, it remains unclear as to who wants the 24-year-old defender on their side. As of now, he will be returning home and joining Postecoglou’s ranks before looking for new turfs to graze.
