Tottenham Hotspur to welcome back James Maddison and Micky van de Van as crunch time draws near
According to The Standard, two Tottenham Hotspur talents, James Maddison and Micky van de Ven, are on the brink of returning to action in January.
Van de Ven had participated in every minute of Tottenham’s initial 11 games under Postecoglou’s leadership until he suffered a hamstring tear in the match against Chelsea. Renowned for his impressive speed, tactical acumen, and composure on the ball, the Dutch centre-back swiftly became a pivotal player in Postecoglou’s dynamic attacking system.
On the other hand, Maddison has been a crucial contributor for Tottenham this season, securing three goals and providing five assists while operating in the attacking midfield position.
Tottenham secured a 2-0 victory against Nottingham Forest last week, clinching another win. However, the match also resulted in some key players being sidelined. Yves Bissouma received a red card, leading to a four-game suspension before he departs for the Africa Cup of Nations. Additionally, Destiny Udogie’s fifth yellow card of the season earned him a one-game ban.
Meanwhile, Manor Solomon continues to show positive signs in his recovery from knee surgery. The Spurs manager remains optimistic that as January progresses, several key players will return. Postecoglou faces the challenge of maintaining Tottenham’s success in both domestic and cup competitions.
Despite the impending obstacles, Tottenham finds hope in the potential return of crucial players, particularly the anticipated comeback of Van de Ven. Furthermore, should Maddison sustain his current level of performance post-recovery, he could emerge as a vital player for
England manager Gareth Southgate during Euro 2024. Maddison has made five appearances for his country, but securing a consistent place in the starting lineup remains his ongoing goal.
